The Schwarzwald is a unique area for castles and fortifications.  For one, the entire central portion of the Schwarzwald is lacking any major castle, the reason for this being primarily the nature of the terrain. However, tucked away in some remote areas are a host of nice structures, and a selection of them are featured here. At the same time, a number of lesser-known structures receive some attention they otherwise would have not, for good or for ill.

As of September 2011, all of the pages are open with photos, though many still need descriptive text and historical notes. Moreover, I intend to add some site survey data, including data from some sites that to my knowledge have yet to be properly surveyed.
