Ehrenfels... and the Way to Assmannshausen
On the way from Ehrenfels towards Rheinstein, one runs into the quaint town of Assmannshausen. It is worth the visit, if for anything because of the small shops and restaurants. While not quite the tourist trap as Rudesheim is, Assmannshausen like all Rhein towns still gets its share of visitors.
Rheinfels is visible across the river, to the right.
Left, a typical cobblestone street in Assmannshausen. Note the black circular imaging at the corners. This was caused by using the polarizer and the blue light filter together. I left this in this image to illustrate what happens when you use multiple filters together. You can even get a modest form of this effect with just one filter when using a high level of optical zoom.
Lower left, another view into the town. Note the tight living conditions, where apartments are almost hapazardly stacked on one another. The back mini-porches for many of these are in such a way that one could almost jump from porch to porch as they worked their way down to the street. Home privacy is at a premium for most Germans, and Europeans in general, and thus they guard what little they can get with jealousy.
